In Zenderen, the retreat house St. Josef was established in 1927 by the Redemptorist Fathers to provide a place for Twente Catholics to cultivate their spiritual growth. In 1963, reflecting the changing times, St. Josef was renamed De Zwanenhof Reflection Center, and began welcoming both religious and non-religious individuals. Eventually, the financial resources of the Fathers proved inadequate to maintain the center, leading to the sale of the complex, including its monastery garden, in 2012. It was then renamed De Zwanenhof, Center for Training and Development.

The vision is to create a place where diverse groups can come together and collaborate. This includes healthcare staff working alongside students, and the hospitality sector partnering with day programs for individuals with mild intellectual disabilities, those distanced from the labor market, people with dementia, and volunteers. Our aim is to make these individuals feel genuinely valuable and to help them have a fulfilling day. By doing so, we want them to feel truly included in our society.

For everyone in need. Whether it’s for rest during burnout recovery, recuperation after cancer treatment, or day programs for individuals with mild disabilities, we collaborate with students. Our focus is on people supporting one another, with significant attention given to technology (e-Health) to assist everyone effectively.

De Zwanenhof in Zenderen spans a total area of 6,200m², featuring dozens of rooms, treatment rooms, and even apartments. The facility will include a restaurant and terraces around the building, providing spaces for meeting, socializing, and enjoying each other's company, both indoors and outdoors. Visitors on day trips are also welcome at the dining areas. Surrounding the complex, there is ample space for our 'Movement and Experience Garden,' designed for relaxation, sports, recovery, education, and integrating care services.
